Most hunting knives will fail. They will either rust, lose their sharpness when you need it most, or crack under pressure.

Cold Steel has been making high quality knives for the past 20 years and they are well conscious of this harsh reality.

This is precisely why they have invented what is perchance the BEST hunting knife on the market. The Outdoorsman.

Here are my thoughts on the very hyped knife:

What I like regarding the Outdoorsman:

1. The 6″ blade is crafted with three layers of laminated steel called VG-1 San Mai III.

This steel has an inner core (cutting edge) of VG-1 Stainless steel. There is a layer of much softer 400 series stainless on each side, which gives the blade flexibility.

San Mai steel is with regards to as good as it gets without spending over $1,000.

2. It’s time proven drop point design is perfective for skinning wild game.

3. You will detect a ridge on the spine of the blade that looks like a “Blood groove”.

This is genuinely a bone crusher that you may use as a hammering device or chopping edge.

4. Directly behind the bone crusher is jimping (thumb grooves). This feature is perfective for applying direct pressure when you need to make precise cuts.

5. The Cold Steel Outdoorsman has a finger guard and pommel that are made with stainless steel. This will give you extra piece of mind.

6. Full tang construction means that there is no need to worry regarding the blade separating from the handle.

What I didn’t like:

1. Partial serrations would be helpful on this knife, but other than as supposed or expected I have no major complaints.

Overall:

With a suggested merchandising value of $285, The Outdoorsman knife by Cold Steel is worth each penny.

It is built like a tank and will stand up to even the toughest situations.

3Same bits
By M. Sullivan
All the screw driver bits are Phillips size 2. It would have been better had they included a couple of different sizes and a regular flat blade. I also have had a problem with the Impact Ready Pivoting Bit Tip Holder snapping in two. I have been able to get it back together, but it has happened more then once. All other bits work well.

3A little more variety would help
By P. Hanley
Dewalt sells another “Impact Ready” kit with more variety, but lacks the 1/4-3/8 drive for sockets. Thus, forcing you to buy both kits. The pivot drive probably won’t be as useful as Dewalt markets it to be, and having a case full of #2 bits isn’t going to get me very far when I need to drop down cement board or decking using square drives. I’ve been using Bosch philips bits with my Makita impact and they’ve held up perfectly, so I really wanted this more for the 1/4-3/8 drive and sockets.

5worth it

best thing about this set is the pivoting bit holder. black & decker makes a similiar pivoting bit holder but it is longer on the driving end than the dewalt. shorter is better in most instances.
